the Powers of Preternia by CheshireMoon7 the Powers of Preternia by CheshireMoon7
A Filmation style teaser for the Powers of Preternias; a podcast over at He-Man.org.

The Characters on the left Man-E-Weapons (based on a design by J-Sun) and Bearhug are fan creations of the podcast guys - sorry no clue who created them (if by some twist of fate you happen upon this please let me know so I can give you guys credit)

the rest of the guys are from Mike Young Productions, Filmation, Mattel and the He-Ro; Son of He-Man series bible. These characters are obviously copyrighted to their respective owners.

OMG! You have made my year!

Powers of Preternia was my brain child, and I'm always so tickled when someone remembers it fondly.

I did start uploading the episodes to you tube, didn't get much beyond the (poor audio quality :/) first episode, but if there really is interest I'll get back to work on it.

Its so cool seeing everyone look so Filmation'y!

Thanks again!!!

So what character is from the '96 He-Ro Son of He-Man failed project?

The He-Ro you have in the center looks to be Mattel's '87 He-Ro from "Powers of Grayskull" line.

If you go hunting, you'll discover a proposed follow up to He-Man and the Masters of the Universe in Which Dare, He-man and Teela's long lost son, becomes He-Ro to battle against Skeletor who has returned - there's a whole series bible with pics - I kinda based this He-Ro more on Dare's He-Ro look with a bit of influence drawn from the unused prototype. :)

Yes I know the '96 Lou Scheimer failed proposition. :)

Your pic had strong resemblance to the '87 version, which made me curious.

Yup it is... Wouldn't be Grayskull without some skull-faced villain looming over it :)

Powerful imagery! He-Ro is really the center-piece here.

I think you could have given an overall more worked out look if you had gone over the Filmation Castle Grayskull in the background with some paint-brushes tho. To make it seem less like a stock-photo.

aah yes good point, I had actually planned on including Eldor as well as fancying up the castle a bit - I ran out of time and interest alas.

I don't know about Bearhug, but Man-E-Weapons appears to have been a creation of a guy named J-Sun.

Hope that helps.

Just for clarification,

Man-E-Weapons is a fan-name for a variant Man-E-Faces toy that has existed since the vintage days.

I created a distinct character/role/personality for him in the podcast.

We did a design contest to determine his "official" look, IIRC J-Sun's was one of the entries, but his design may have just been him playing with the variant-character independently.

One of our goals was to keep the project as close to "official" as possible, so 99% of everything that went on was a reference/homage/update to SOMETHING real in the vast canon of MOTU.

Bearhug (who was conceived as a heroic analog of BeastMan) and Lord Ramskull (conceived as an evil analog of Ram Man) were among the very few elements that we pulled from "thin air".

Also, DAMN I love this piece, especially BearHug, your design is SOOOOO fimation'y!
